The trunks can reach a height of 40 to 45m in good conditions.  Cases have been reported of trees with trunks without branches of up to 27m.   In these cases the trunks have measured 1.50m in diameter.  In plantation trees, the height may be up to 45m and are ready to be cut only 60 years after planting.

Colouring:

Whiteness: well-defined, its colour is between white and pale yellow.
Duramen: in its purest form it has a uniform golden-brown colour without any marks.  The most common colour variation is dark golden-yellow which later changes to a rich brown colour with chocolate brown parts.  There may be a slight variation in the height of boards.

Grain: is normally straight, although may be wavy at times.

Exploitation

Teak is a source of wealth for Burma and as the government in Myanmar realizes this, it regulates it exploitation and sale very carefully.

The forest is managed in order to conserve and sustain it.

Another advantage of Burma forests is the difficulty to extract trees due to the mountainous terrain. Elephants are used to extract the trees, thus protecting the environment and the forest regenerates naturally or by replanting.

Handling

Teak is an easy material to handle. When it is processed intensively the following must be considered:

- As silica is present, the blades of tools tend to go blunt quickly.

- Resins may affect the machinery.

It is therefore advisable to use suitable glues in sticking the teak, especially in moist or outside areas. The best materials are polyurethanes or epoxy resin.
